Amanda and Steve | Engagement Photos In Piedmont Park

Today I’d like to introduce you to Amanda and Steve.  They’re getting married in just a couple of months, so last weekend we met up in the morning at Atlanta’s beautiful Piedmont Park to hang out and get to know each other and make their engagement photos.  As it turns out, Amanda and Steve are seriously fun and I still have a cramp in my side from laughing so hard… but I expected nothing less from people who love all things Whedon.  Plus, Amanda has the coolest laptop decal ever (and I’m also especially fond of her name).  But you don’t want to hear what I have to say about them… instead, here’s what they have to say….

How did you meet?  We met during a trip to Disney World with some mutual friends and started dating pretty shortly afterwards. We had actually traveled parallel paths for a while without ever really meeting – we both lived in Pittsburgh, PA as kids and our families moved to Florida right around the same time, and then we both attended the University of Florida and had mutual friends. But it wasn’t until a trip to Disney that we really met and we just had an immediate connection. We made each other laugh and were excited to keep talking to one another.

What was dating like?  Amanda: Early on, we were long distance, but were able to spend weekends with each other before eventually moving in together after about a year. Dating was always just fun and we both kept pointing out that spending time together was just so comfortable and easy.

Describe your proposal.  Amanda: Our proposal reflected the rest of our relationship — low key and egalitarian. We picked out a ring together that fit our values – a lab-created gemstone with recycled metals for minimal ecological and social impact, but beautiful and colorful. We got engaged at our house and we both proposed and both accepted.

How would you describe your relationship?  Our relationship is really complementary — Steve does details and likes things to be just right; while Amanda looks at the big picture to make sure that we are enjoying ourselves along the way. We are both pretty laid back and also pretty nerdy – there have been some epic Battlestar Galactica and Whedon show marathons in our house. If we do argue, it’s probably about what kind of computer to buy or about who has the best video game strategy.

What’s your wedding going to be like?

Amanda: I’ve never been a big fan of weddings, but the older I get, I’ve grown to really appreciate them as an opportunity to get friends and family together (and eat and drink and dance). Our wedding will be a celebration of our relationship but also a celebration of our community of friends and family, who are so generous to travel to be with us on our big day.

Steve: Neither of us had the big dream wedding plan.  When we started planning we soon realized all we wanted was a day that reflects our casual nature where we get to celebrate our relationship with all our friends and family, and of course good food, drinking and dancing!

It’s pretty obvious that Amanda and Steve’s wedding is going to be very shiny.  😉  Thank you both for getting up early and braving the chilly air to make epic engagement photos with me.  I can’t wait for your wedding.  It’s going to be a great day.
