One of the best parts of my job, in fact, THE best part of my job is the people that it brings into my life. Those beautiful ladies you see here today are Moriah and Kaia and Cori. We met Moriah and Kaia a few years back when Moriah and Kevin were married in New Orleans, and that’s the day I fell in love with this family. We kept in contact after their wedding when they were stationed in Okinawa, and then when they moved to Twentynine Palms. When I coincidentally booked back-to-back SoCal weddings, we started planning for Joshua Tree NP family photos.
So that’s how I found myself sitting in Moriah’s kitchen on a Wednesday afternoon in October. And when she sat down at the table and looked at me and asked, “Do you know what today is?”, I didn’t know. She said, “Today is the fourth anniversary of the day Kevin and I said our vows.” And I was just blown away at the strange poetic symmetry of the universe. The next day we drove out to the desert for these Joshua Tree NP family photos, and in another moment of symmetry, Kaia had a little bump and shed big beautiful Kaia tears just like she did on that day four years ago. But we also laughed and played and goofed around and enjoyed a spectacular sunset.
The next day I left for San Luis Obispo for my next wedding, and that night Kevin was home from Afganistan safe in the arms of his beautiful family. These Joshua Tree NP family photos were his welcome home gift. If the universe (I mean, the Marines) could only have cooperated just a tiny bit more… but it wasn’t in the cards. No worries. It just gives us an excuse to do it all again when they move to Atlanta. You’re moving to Atlanta, right?
