Today I want to tell you the story of Tere and Ty’s romantic and rainy multicultural summer wedding at The Lytle House in Chicago. Three years ago Tere and Ty met on Tinder. Tere said she would bring the roses if Ty brought the bread. Ty thought this was cute, and didn’t learn until much later that it was a reference to the labor movement.
“Our first date was at a Pho restaurant on Argyle. Tere sent Ty a gif of a hot bowl of pho and Ty couldn’t resist. Tere was late. Very late. Granted, it was snowing on groundhog’s day in Chicago and the roads were terrible. The waiter kept coming to Ty’s table to check in, and even suggested parking options. Ty waited. Mostly because she really wanted Pho and her car got totaled a week before, and she wasn’t about to hop back on the L train in this weather.”
“When Tere finally arrived, Ty shook her hand. We now laugh about how “business-like” that was. We ended the night at Kopi Cafe in Andersonville. Afterwards Tere dropped Ty off back at their apartment and we both hoped the other would reach out for another date.”
“Ty proposed in the doorway of our home after Maritere had taken a long nap. She told Maritere to put pants on before proposing, and wanted to get on her knees in front of the house but it happened to be Super Bowl Sunday and we didn’t want spectators. It was a beautiful day out and all our neighbors were out on the street. Next, Maritere proposed a few weeks later at the beginning of Covid on the deck in the backyard when it seemed like it was going to be awhile before we could actually go anywhere. We had no idea the pandemic would still be in existence a year later.”
Tere and Ty walked down the aisle to an all-women mariachi band. It was one of the many ways they chose to highlight their separate blended cultures.
