Today I want to tell you a story about a friend of mine. This is River, her husband Will, and their best dogs Waffles and Ginger. The way I met River is and isn’t weird, since it’s basically how I’ve met most of my photographer friends. Surfing the internet one day years ago, looking for other photographers who weren’t homophobic asshats, I stumbled across her website, full of stunning images and after a few minutes of reading it, I sent her a message. Something along the lines of, ‘Hey, you seem pretty cool and I’m also pretty cool. You wanna hang out in a not creepy way and get some coffee?’ Oddly, she agreed. So I went to the wrong coffee shop. Anyway, it worked out.
Now, a few years later, I consider her one of my favorite people (and also one of the most talented photographers I know). As soon as I met Will, he also became one of my favorite people. They’re perfect together. His weird is the absolute perfect match for her weird. Like peanut butter and jelly, but I’m not sure who’s the peanut butter.
So when River asked me to make some at home family photos for them, I was thrilled. And maybe a little nervous. But then she told me what she wanted to do, and I knew I probably wouldn’t screw that up too bad. My favorite kind of family photos to make are at home photos. Nothing is more beautiful. These photos tell an important story. One that is unique and belongs to no one else. This is the story of River And The Hounds.
My friend, you have a beautiful life. Thanks for letting me make these for you.
If you’re curious and you’d like to see River’s work, visit her website here. I think you’ll agree, she’s damn good.
