A few years ago, my dog was diagnosed with a terminal illness. There was no cure, but I could keep her more comfortable and prolong her time with us by walking her as much as possible to keep her lungs clear. So we started taking long rambling walks together through our neighborhood. I started carrying a small camera with me on the walks. After she passed, I kept carrying the camera. A new dog joined the family. I kept carrying the camera. From all those miles and miles of walking a photo series took shape. Familiar is about love and the passage of time and seeing the beauty in the unexpected.
