REVERIES

Over the past three decades I’ve logged thousands of hours and driven hundreds of thousands of miles around the nation. Countless times, I’ve been intrigued by what at first glance seemed to be an interesting scene, only to realize after pulling over that what had really caught my attention was the dynamic interaction of the pieces in motion. The charm of the scene vanished as soon as I stopped moving. In time I realized that I would need to go beyond conventional still landscape photography in order to capture the experience.

My continuing project, “Reveries,” explores this interaction between still imagery and the constantly changing open road. In this series I experiment with various techniques, including long exposures and deliberate camera movements to introduce chance and spontaneity into the process. The resulting images merge subjective vision with the serendipitous interplay of light, motion, and the surrounding environment.
