For some couples, the perfect wedding is a splashy event with all of the bells and whistles and two hundred loved ones celebrating alongside them. But for other couples, like Amanda and Mallory, the perfect day is much more intimate.
Their day began in the early morning with just them and their dogs getting ready together in their vacation rental. No rushing around, no chaos. Just a quiet morning spent together, helping each other get dressed with their two dogs for company.
Because they are thoughtful people, everything about their day had purpose and meaning. From the symbolic jewelry they chose to wear, to the hand made collars and leashes for their dogs, it all held the weight of intention.
After they were dressed, it was just a short drive to the state park where they met up with the handful of close family members who were joining them for the hike. With the dogs in the lead, we all headed out for a one mile hike to an overlook they had chosen a few days before.
Over the years, I’ve done many hiking weddings, and I love them. Hiking can be a kind of meditation. At least for me. But I have observed that folks who hike to their ceremony arrive calm and centered. A place like Cloudland Canyon with its views that go on for miles instills a certain kind of reverence that is just right for a wedding ceremony.
And so they stood on the rock outcropping surrounded by their best people (and dogs) and spoke their vows to each other with tears in their eyes. Their family members passed their rings and charged them with love and positive energy to carry with them every day. Then they placed those rings on each other’s finger and sealed it all with a kiss.
Days like this day are one of the many reasons I love my job. It was an honor to tell your story, Amanda and Mallory, and I wish you many beautiful days ahead full of love and laughter and adventure. Congratulations.
