Making Engagement Pictures and Eating Fried Grits With Meghan and Brian in Clarksdale, Mississippi
Every time I write Mississippi, I can’t help but sing the song in my head. M-I-crooked letter-crooked letter-I-crooked letter-crooked letter-I-humpback humpback-I. Which just goes to show you…. oh, I dunno, something. However, we’re not here to sing silly little songs from yesteryear, as much fun as that is (Red Rover anyone?), we’re here so you can meet the two coolest people in Mississippi (M-I-crooked letter….). This is Meghan and Brian. Meghan and Brian are quite possibly the funniest people I have ever met, and I know more than a couple of really insane people (Hi Leslie!). From our first emails, Meghan had me totally cracking up, and then after our Skype chat, I sat here at my desk with all my fingers and toes crossed hoping they would book me because I knew I really wanted to hang out with these people really bad. Which is why I totally routed the first leg of my Big Utah Adventure through Clarksdale… Well, that, and they promised fried grits (yum!) and awesome blues music. (Bribery will get you everywhere.)
Now, you probably have noticed from my avatar that I’m a redhead. And as long as I’ve been making portraits, I don’t remember ever photographing another redhead. We’re kind of rare.. at least true redheads are. So here I am, trying to be all suave and cool and professional-ish for this mega-cool couple, when I notice how the sunlight hits Meghan’s hair, and I yell right out loud, “OMG, your hair is so cool in the sunlight! It’s like it’s on FIRE! Red hair is AWESOME!!” Aha. Super Dork strikes again. But it’s true, red hair is amazing. And now I want to photograph Meghan all the time in the sunlight. Plus, she has the most gorgeous freckles. Oh yeah, Brian, you’re really cool too.
And that, home fry, is Meghan and Brian. By now, you undoubtedly agree with me about how cool they are. The best part is that we get to hang out with them again at their wedding in November. Woo hoo! (Btw, Delanie (Noelle) has already asked me if she can be my assistant for this wedding….). But wait, I’m not done yet. Here’s a special photo just for Brian.
This is the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge, the 5th highest bridge in the US. You see, Brian builds bridges (how cool is that?), and he’s so passionate and excited about it that, for the rest of the trip, every time I crossed a bridge, I thought of Brian and wanted to photograph them all. Except that I don’t know anything about bridges, and so most of the photos are pretty lame. But this bridge is pretty impressive. Oh, and here’s one last photo of Delanie (Noelle) being completely fascinated by cotton blooms.
So, Internet folks, in case you hadn’t guessed, I’m back from the Big Utah Adventure, and it’s time to share a looooooooot of photos with you. Go ahead and get caught up on your office work, because you’re going to need lots of spare time to see all the blog posts I’m about to make.
And finally, Meghan and Brian, I want to thank you for being so generally amazing and for being such wonderful hosts while we visited Clarksdale, Mississippi to make your engagement pictures. Not only are you guys the funniest people in Mississippi (M-I-crooked letter….), you are the nicest. I can’t wait to go to your wedding!
