An Ode to Piedmont Park
A love letter to Atlanta’s best backyard
There’s something about a Piedmont Park wedding that just feels like Atlanta. Not the polished, magazine-spread version of the city, but the real thing. The grit and the green. The skyline framed by oak branches. That hum of people living their lives around you while you promise yours to someone else.
I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve photographed here, but it never gets old. Every time I walk through the park, I notice something new. A different angle of light. A secret path. Another amazing Midtown skyline view. This place shapeshifts with the seasons and with the people in front of the camera. And that’s what makes it so exciting to me.
A few weeks ago, I photographed a tiny wedding in the pavilion. Just a handful of people, a little wind, and the pleasant chatter of the city in the distance. No grand entrances, no fuss. Just two people who knew what mattered and chose to do it here. I’ll never get tired of watching love unfold in this park.
There are a few official venue spaces here—Greystone, Magnolia Hall, Dockside—each one with its own vibe. But honestly, some of the best moments happen in the in-between places: the gravel paths, the hill overlooking the lake, the shady corner near the Noguchi playground. It’s not just pretty. It’s full of stories. Full of history.
I say it all the time, but if you’re queer, creative, offbeat, sentimental, or just allergic to ballrooms, Piedmont Park is your friend. It shows up. It gets you and how much you love this city. And it photographs like a dream.
Want to see more? I’ve got a whole category of Piedmont Park weddings and other sessions here on the blog.
So here’s to the park that keeps surprising me. To the couples who trust it. And to all the weird, wild, ordinary ways love shows up under these trees.
Oliviah and Chris
This beautiful couple with the magnetic smiles are Oliviah and Chris. The day they chose for their wedding was one of those perfect spring afternoons that makes winter feel like a million years ago. But what really stuck with me, besides their joy, was how kind and welcoming their families were. The whole wedding had this easy rhythm, like everyone was breathing a little deeper just being there. It reminded me (again) that the best weddings are never really about the details… they’re about the people.
