Wedding at The Carrington in Buda, Texas

Today I’d like to tell you the story of how Ellie married Kirsten on a perfect afternoon in Texas at the historic old Carrington Drug Store, now just called The Carrington, located on Main Street in downtown Buda, Texas. Built in the early 1900s, it’s a building full of character and charm. Gorgeous aged hardwood floors, the perfect collection of eclectic vintage furniture, original tin ceilings, and textured plaster walls make it a photographer’s dream.

So I know Texas gets a lot of heat, literally and metaphorically. But over the years, I’ve developed a real affection for Texas. It has a lot of great things going for it. First of all, the food is incredible. I still think back fondly on that gas station taco I bought in desperation on a road trip somewhere between Dallas and Big Bend NP that is easily one of the top five best tacos I’ve ever eaten. If I’d known that there’s nothing west of Dallas but sand and mesquite, I’d have missed out on that foundational life experience. Still probably would have been nice. But I digress.

The landscape of Texas is also simply gorgeous. If you look around here enough, you’ll see how much I love landscape photography, especially in the desert. And Texas hits all the right notes for desert landscapes. It’s also one of the places in the country where you can get that wonderful golden light in the afternoon that just makes every photo sing. Big Bend is unquestionably one of the most beautiful National Parks in the whole country and well worth the drive. A warning about the mosquitoes near the river though. They are robust creatures.

But the main thing that makes Texas truly incredible is the people I have met there. Like Ellie and Kirsten. They are some of the kindest humans I have ever had the pleasure to meet. They make you feel like family. Their wedding planning centered around making their guests feel welcomed and loved, and there were many special touches that reflected how much time they’d spent thinking about who was going to be there and what might make them most comfortable. I will never forget the warmth of Ellie’s beautiful eyes or the contagiousness of Kirsten’s laugh.

Congratulations Ellie and Kirsten. It was an honor to tell your story and I wish you all the most wonderful things in your life together.
