Today I want to tell you the story of Kara and John’s intimate church wedding and backyard reception. Kara and John met a couple of years ago when their paths crossed at work. Jokes were exchanged, there was chemistry, and the next thing you know, there’s puppies and real estate involved. Naturally, it was time to get engaged. Kara says, “John wrote, ‘will you marry my daddy,’ on a retrieving practice toy and gave it to his hunting dog, Belle. The idea was John would throw the toy, and Belle would bring it back to me. Instead, she buried the toy. So, after a little bit of digging, John gave me the toy (and an engagement ring.) (Fun fact, Belle has also buried John’s wallet and my glasses, along with countless other household items.)” One of the other questions I like to ask couples is how or when they knew the other person was ‘the one’ for them. Kara’s answer may be the best. “He lets me blow my nose on his sleeve. When I was a little girl, my dad always let me do this, and I said I’d marry the man who also let me do it. I know it’s gross, but it’s endearing to me.” One of the things I’ve learned over the years is that the best couples are the ones who let each other be their complete selves, not just without judgement, but with encouragement. Kara and John have that sewn up, and it’s awesome. Congratulations Kara and John!
