Christine and Bill:  Acts of Love and Service

Hello again Internet!  I hope that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.  Have you finished the leftovers yet?  Has the turkey coma worn off yet?  I hope so, because I want to share some photos with you today.  Do you remember the couple in the first photo?  That’s Christine and Bill.  They got married the weekend before Thanksgiving in a gorgeous little church in downtown Washington, DC, called The Church of the Holy City.  Which kinda cracks me up a little… Washington, DC?  Holy city?  Hee hee.

Christine and Bill had a different kind of wedding in mind when they planned their day.  Because they wanted to make their day as much about their family as it was about them.  They made sure to include Bill’s daughter Hannah in the ceremony… as a part of the ceremony, in addition to her role as the flower girl.  Because they understood that they were making a new family and she was an important part of that too.

And this beautiful couple is Bill’s parents, who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary the day before the wedding.  These two absolutely glowed with love still.  It was wonderful to be around them.  When I grow up, I want to be just like them.

Bill and Christine told me about a book they read called The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman, which has greatly influenced their philosophy and relationship style.  They both agree that the most important love language to each of them is Acts of Service.  To them, it’s the little things that they can do for each other on a daily basis that best communicates their love to each other.  And so every day, they each try to perform small services to bring happiness to the other, like packing a lunch, or doing some laundry.  Because being considerate is sexy.  And, most importantly, it’s loving.

So, after a bit, the ceremony was over.  Christine and Bill made sure to thank every guest for coming as they left the church.  While the guests made their way to the Georgia Brown’s for the reception, we stayed behind and made a few photos.  And then it was time to party…

The reception was an awesome celebration.  The guests were in the mood to party, the restaurant was gorgeous, the music blew my mind, and the fooooood….  well, as Christine put it, “If you don’t like this food, you just don’t like to eat.”  Seriously.  It was some good food.

Instead of a grand exit,  Christine and Bill sent their guests home and then went to the bar to relax and have a quiet drink together to savor their day.

And then, with a kiss, they walked hand in hand back to their hotel.  A perfect end to a perfect day.

That, dear Internet, is the story of Christine and Bill’s special day.  Now I want to say a very special thank you to Christine and Bill, and their family and friends, for including me as a part of this amazing day.  I had such a great time getting to know all of you.  You are all wonderful.  Thank you for everything.
