Cushing Field House Michigan Wedding | Holly and Matt

Today I want to tell you the story of how Holly and Matt were married on a perfect fall afternoon on the lawn at Michigan’s gorgeous Cushing Field House. We first met them back in 2019 when we made their engagement photos on the Ann Arbor college campus where they met way back in 2012. After first being friends for a few years, in 2015 they realized they were closer than friends. Holly officially asked Matt to be their boyfriend.

When I asked how they got engaged, this is what they told me, “Three years together, after many ups and downs, a dog, and nine snakes, our relationship was stronger than ever. We had discussed marriage and knew we were on the same page for our future. When Matt said he would like to plan the next vacation, Holly suspected something was up. The trip began by spending a night in Grosse Pointe, where Holly grew up, and seeing the sunrise over Lake St Claire. We arrived at the lakeshore at dawn, though a cloudy sky dampened the view a bit. We then embarked on a road trip across the state to Lake Michigan, and then up the coast through several cute towns, including Saugatuck, where we spent our first anniversary. Our destination was an adorable B&B in Omena, with a gorgeous view of Grand Traverse Bay. We had dinner in Suttons Bay, and then took a walk on the sand at Good Harbor Bay Beach. Matt had prepared a touching letter for Holly to read, and as they finished it, he got down on one knee and proposed. Holly said yes, of course, and shortly after, Matt got an engagement ring of his own.”

And that, my friends, is how we all found ourselves gathered together to celebrate their wedding, after a slightly longer than planned engagement. And they got married wearing CAPES because they are the coolest. I really don’t know why more people don’t wear capes. I really hope this catches on.

Congratulations Holly and Matt!
