Once upon a time there was a beautiful girl and a beautiful boy who fell in love and got married in a castle. Sometimes it really does feel like I’m watching a fairy tale unfold from behind the camera.
Located on Peachtree Street in Midtown Atlanta, Rhodes Hall is a prominent historic landmark that now serves as a unique wedding and event venue. Completed in 1904 as the residence of furniture mogul Amos Rhodes, the building is known locally as the “Castle on Peachtree” and is one of the few surviving early 20th-century residential mansions on the street.
Designed by architect Willis F. Denny, the mansion features a Romanesque Revival style inspired by the Rhineland castles of Germany. The exterior is constructed from massive blocks of Stone Mountain granite, giving the property its distinct medieval appearance. At the time of its construction, Rhodes Hall was highly modern. It was actually one of the first homes in Atlanta fully wired for electricity and fitted with indoor plumbing. The property has been meticulously preserved, and the original fixtures, tiling, and woodwork remain intact. Even better, all the original ghosts remain undisturbed.
And so we found ourselves mingling with the ghosts in the Castle on Peachtree one fine fall afternoon, celebrating the wedding of Katie and Bren. Katie says, “I always tell people we have a twenty first century love story – we met on Tinder. I never believed in love at first sight, but from our first conversation, I felt a kind of peace, like we already knew each other.”
How did you get engaged? “We were visiting my parents in Atlanta to go to the Renaissance Faire. I spent the morning relaxing and getting into costume, and I felt like the most magical version of myself. My sister made the trip over too, and before we left for the faire, my mom offered to take pictures of us. Bren posed me on one side of a tree, and when I turned around and saw him on one knee, it felt like time stopped. It was so special to be surrounded by my family and feel so much love in a way that was uniquely us.”
See? Fairy tales do come true.
