Show what you want to attract
One of the most commonly passed around bits of advice for photographers trying to build their career is ‘Show what you want to attract.’ Have you ever wondered why some photographers have websites that look a little… one kind of way? Now you know.
Every wedding I photograph is its own world. Every family session, every engagement session is unique. Different people, different places, different stories. And they’re all fascinating and amazing to me. That’s why I blog every single one.
It’s not about filling my website or chasing likes. It’s about making sure the people I work with can see themselves represented. If you’ve spent any time looking for an inclusive wedding or family photographer, you know how often the same kinds of people show up on every page. And if you don’t fit that mold, it’s easy to wonder if you’ll be welcome, celebrated, or even understood.
My clients are queer and straight. They’re young and not-so-young. They’re sometimes disabled. They have melanin, tattoos, kids, cultural traditions, chosen families, and unconventional timelines. Some get married in backyards, others in big ballrooms, and some on top of mountains. I blog them all, because each of those love stories matters.
Representation isn’t a box to check. It’s a promise.
Being an inclusive wedding photographer isn’t about ticking boxes. It’s about a promise that when you scroll through my blog, you’ll see people like you, loving out loud, and know you belong here.
I also blog every couple because weddings are more than one perfect portrait. They’re the messy, funny, emotional, fleeting moments that make the day yours. If I only shared the most “Pinterest-ready” snippets, I’d be telling half the truth. And you deserve the whole story.
So when you see my blog, know that it’s not a highlight reel. It’s a collection of real lives and real celebrations, with all their quirks and beauty intact. It’s proof that love looks a thousand different ways. And every single one is worth showing.
