Today I want to tell you the story of a Vinings Lake Church wedding that reminded me why I do this work in the first place: Giant cats. Oh, and love. It’s the love.
Rey and Jesse met the way all great love stories begin… at someone else’s lesbian wedding… in the middle of a pandemic. Rey’s sister was marrying Jesse’s friend, and somewhere in the mix of vows and dancing, these two locked eyes. Four years later, they’re still together. Still making each other laugh. Still choosing each other.
Their proposal was a garden lover’s dream. Jesse took Rey to Gibbs Gardens on the anniversary of their first kiss and led her into a field full of wildflowers. A friend was hiding in the flowers, camera in hand. He dropped to one knee (probably). She said yes (definitely). The flowers clapped (probably).
Vinings Lake Church in Smyrna, GA, was the perfect backdrop for their heartfelt wedding ceremony. It’s not a stereotypical Southern church. It’s modern, full of light and good energy, and welcomes everyone. And so they stood on the stage under the spotlights and recited their vows and exchanged rings. Friends and family looked on with tears and smiles and applause as they shared their first kiss, then floated back down the aisle arm in arm.
Then it was time to celebrate. Amazing food, toasts, and dancing. So much dancing. With cats. Giant cats (as it should be).
Rey and Jesse, thank you for trusting me with your story. Y’all are proof that love shows up when and where you least expect it. Sometimes even in the middle of someone else’s dance floor.
