Janet and Andrew: Wedding at Holliston Historical Society
This is the story of Janet and Andrew, who are not only the nicest couple ever, but also share a deep and abiding love for math. You know, Math. Numbers and equations and cosines and stuff. I’ll admit, I’ve long forgotten everything I learned in algebra (sad, but mostly true). However, I am the Champion Queen of Googling Stuff, and a quick internet search brought up this poetic gem, which made me smile and giggle, and since it’s pretty darn appropriate, I’ll share it with you.
The Square Root of 3 by Dave Feinberg
I’m sure that I will always be
A lonely number like root threeThe three is all that’s good and right,
Why must my three keep out of sight
Beneath the vicious square root sign,
I wish instead I were a nineFor nine could thwart this evil trick,
with just some quick arithmeticI know I’ll never see the sun, as 1.7321
Such is my reality, a sad irrationalityWhen hark! What is this I see,
Another square root of a threeAs quietly co-waltzing by,
Together now we multiply
To form a number we prefer,
Rejoicing as an integerWe break free from our mortal bonds
With the wave of magic wandsOur square root signs become unglued
Your love for me has been renewed
And that, dear Internet, is the story of Janet and Andrew’s perfect wedding. With lots of love and laughter, the best pizza ever (yes, I wholeheartedly confirm your opinion Andrew!), and amazing live bluegrass music, it was a day to remember. Thanks Janet and Andrew for inviting me to be a part of your day. It was wonderful to get to know you and your friends and family, and I wish you lots of love and laughter…. and math.
