Today I want to tell you the story of Christina and John’s gorgeous and intimate wedding on a perfect summer afternoon in the North Georgia mountains at Juliette Chapel in Dahlonega. We first met Christina and John when we made their super fun Krog Street engagement photos in Atlanta. From the moment I first spoke to this couple, I was thoroughly smitten. They have the best sense of humor. For example, on their first date at a wine bar, John knew how much Christina liked to bake, so he brought her flour instead of flowers! We also bonded over our mutual love of hiking and the outdoors. They have a goal to hike on every continent, which I’m positive they’ll do. They even got engaged on a hike.
Christina told me the story, “John proposed at the waterfall that I had taken him to on our first hike together. It was amazing because I had no idea he was planning to propose, but I definitely should have! John had waxed the handlebar mustache he was rocking at the time–not something he does to hike. Also, our hiking adventures had long advanced past such an easy hike (this one was 3 miles, but we were routinely doing 12+ mile hikes by the time of the proposal). I really should have known! John sneakily rushed us past a big Boy Scout troop that was on the trail that day. I like to get up close and personal with the water, so I needed to put my sunglasses somewhere before I started scrabbling over the rocks. John suggested I put them in the top pocket of his backpack. When I opened the pouch, the ring box was sitting there. I love vintage things, so John had purchased a ring box from the 1920s to match the ring, which is also from that decade. He got down on one knee and proposed. I asked if he was going to put the ring on my finger. John said that while he had practiced kneeling, he had not practiced putting the ring on a finger and was worried about dropping it amongst the rocks and water. We very carefully got the ring where it needed to be. We had 30 minutes of Boy Scout-free time at the waterfall.”
And it only makes sense that these two avid hikers would get married in the beautiful mountains of North Georgia, and at the end of their perfect wedding day hike off into the trees carrying lanterns. It really was an amazing day. Congratulations Christina and John!
