“Treat everyone you meet as if they are God in drag.” ~Ram Dass
Today I want to introduce you to the nicest couple ever. Seriously. There is statistical data to back up my claim. This is Kamille and Ted, and they are the winners of my Nice People Kick Ass Free Wedding Photography Giveaway. About a million people voted for them. Well, maybe not a million, but this isn’t a math blog, so I’m not looking it up.
Anyway, Kamille and Ted drove to Atlanta last weekend for their engagement session and met me in McDaniel Farm Park. We had a great time getting to know each other a little more, and I am now firmly convinced that those millions of voters are absolutely correct. These two are awesome. Really awesome. And since we all want to know more about them, I asked them some questions, and here’s what they had to say.
How did you meet? We met while attending the same military training in North Carolina. The course was about four months long but we didn’t actually start dating until the very end.
What was dating like? Because we have been long-distance since pretty much the beginning, a lot of our dates involved watching or reading the same things and talking about them on Skype! But when we were able to be together, dating was always fun. We would always meet in the middle somewhere, so we got to visit unusual places like the Coal Mine Museum in West Virginia!
Describe your proposal. When visiting Kamille’s family, we spent an evening at the Santa Monica Pier. One of Kamille’s favorite things to do is ride the Ferris wheel. Everywhere we travel together (London, Paris, Germany, Florida, West Virginia…) Kamille seeks out a Ferris wheel. So, of course, Kamille wanted to ride the Ferris wheel at Santa Monica Pier. The sun was setting when we climbed aboard, and we could see the city beginning to light up when we stopped at the top of the wheel. It was then that Ted moved to one knee, inside the carriage, and asked, “Will you marry me?”
How would you describe your relationship? Our relationship is simple to describe – we’re willing to cross thousands of miles for each other. Probably a lot more than that, actually.
What’s your wedding going to be like? It’s going to be a military wedding, with many in the wedding party in uniform and a saber arch to complete the ceremony. So while the ceremony will be on the serious side, the reception will be fun. Because we both enjoy a good glass of wine, we’ve picked a few of our favorites and will be having a tasting as part of the reception. Of course there will also be lots of food and dancing!
Tell us what participating in the wedding giveaway was like… were there any surprises? Participating in the giveaway was a pretty amazing experience for us. We were completely overwhelmed by the amount of support given to us by our families, friends, friends of friends, coworkers, coworkers families, and complete strangers. Ted describes it best when he says that he was shocked to find that one of the items on the agenda at a staff meeting was how we were doing in the voting! Kamille was deployed at the time, and we were having trouble voting since it looked like every single computer out there was coming from the same place. That didn’t stop everyone from getting their families back in the U.S. in on voting.
Write your own question and answer it. Since I get to make up a question, this is how we fell in love. Shortly after we began dating, we traveled with friends to attend the Kentucky Derby. It was cold and rainy, which meant that the Infield was very muddy. We enjoyed the races and tried our best to stay dry. By the end of the day, we were soaking wet and covered in mud! Under any other circumstances we might have been miserable, but sharing that time together, we couldn’t have been happier.
