Amanda’s Big Adventure Means Loot For You

Hey y’all!  Remember a couple of months ago when I went on that big road trip and came back with a bunch of pretty pictures?  That was a sort of dress rehearsal for this project.  In late September, I’m scheduled to photograph a wedding near Moab, Utah.  Moab is home to some of the most beautiful scenery in the country.  Canyonlands and Arches National Parks are both near Moab.  So right away when Beth and Forrest booked me to come to their wedding, I started planning my visit to the national parks near Moab.

After a while, I started wondering if I could expand my trip.  So I went to the library and picked up a few books.  I got out a big map and some map pins and I started piecing the puzzle together.  As it turns out, there are a few places I’ve always wanted to see between here and there and in northern Utah.  After all, this is the part of the country that was most inspiring to some of my favorite artists, like Ansel Adams and Georgia OKeefe.  And some of the great land art pieces are out there.

So, I decided that my trip should include stops in Taos, New Mexico, the Cadillac Ranch, Spiral Jetty, and the Bonneville Salt Flats.  And I should bring all of my cool film cameras, especially my 4×5 film camera.  And make lots of black and white photos.  Oh, and lots of color photos.  Lots and lots of photos.

Now that I’ve decided what to do, I’ve got to figure out how to do it.  So, a few hours with Google Maps, a calculator, and a few big cups of coffee, and I’ve got numbers.  Big numbers.  Numbers like 5000 miles, 68 hours of driving.  Cool.  Of course, driving 5000 miles means lots of gas.  And 68 hours of travel means some hotels and/or campgrounds will be necessary.  It’s not exactly going to be a three hour tour.  And of course, that led to more numbers… I need greenbacks, moola, cold hard cash to make this thing happen.  Ruh-roh.  Things are getting complicated.  Because you know, you can have time.  Or you can have money.  But you can’t have both. Guess which one I have more of?

After a while, I started to have an idea.  It occurred to me to wonder what’s the point in making all of these photos if I’m not going to share them?  So, I decided to open up this project to you and give you a chance to be involved.  I’ve set up an Indiegogo campaign for my project called Photo Journey to the Mecca of Epic (because there’s not many things more epic than the western landscape).

If you check out my Indiegogo campaign, youll see that every contribution gets a perk.  If you help me out, I’m going to thank you by giving you some art.  Which is super exciting to me, because that’s all I really want to do anyway.  I want to make art and give it to people.

I’m only going to do this campaign for one week, because I hate to be a pest, and because my departure date is coming up soon.  So if you can help fund my big art adventure, please do it right away.  Check out the perks I’m offering.  They are all really cool.  And all but one of them are very limited.  I wanted to be sure that I could deliver what I promised, so I kept each thing limited to a reasonable small number.  Limiting the number of prints, and signing and numbering them, will also create more value for each piece over time.  Most of the cool things can be delivered before the holidays too… hint hint.

So that’s my big announcement this week.  I’d be thrilled if you could be a part of my big adventure.  And if you can’t play today, that’s no problem, but could you please share my project on your facebook wall with your friends and help me spread the word about this project?  Just go to my Epic Journey campaign page and click the facebook ‘Like’ button and that’s all.  I mean, you could say nice things about me too if you felt inspired to do so.

Thank’s so much for being interested enough to read this far.  I’m grateful to you for being here, and for anything you can do to help me make this adventure happen.

Here’s the link one more time:

Hope you have an awesome week!
